Project Generation Gap is plumbed for EFI

Fuel systems are fairly basic. Whether it is carbureted or fuel injected, the delivery system is comprised of a fuel pump (mechanical or electrical), filtering media of some sort, delivery lines, and a fuel pressure regulator to keep the system’s pressure in check. Today’s fuel injection fuel delivery systems can get a bit more complicated as the OEs try to find the best fuel economy, driveability, and performance while also keeping costs in line. One way this is accomplished is with a “returnless” fuel system. The typical returnless system uses a fuel rail pressure sensor, along with other typical engine sensors, to work with the ECM and a fuel pump controlled by a fuel pump driver module. What all this techno-speak means is that a computer varies the voltage to the fuel pump to control the fuel pressure and volume. As the computer sees an increased throttle input, the fuel pump voltage is increased to deliver the increased fuel needed to the engine.

Custom tips from the pros to help your project

As you walk along a row of cars at a show, oftentimes a specific ride will stop you cold. There’s just something about the stance, wheel and tire package, flawless paint, or perhaps even the interior that just takes your breath away. The car in question will often have a crowd around it, cell phones out taking pictures, and people just talking to each other about the build and what they find so interesting on it. While there’s no doubt that we’ve seen some quality work come from an owner’s own garage over the years, in most cases, the car being ogled by said crowd is a completely custom-built car from a professional shop. Seeing cars like this in person (as well as on the pages of your favorite magazines) is an inspiration to those building their own projects. Sure, we may not have the resources, tools, or the finances to build a similar car, but we can certainly take away certain aspects of the build to use on our own projects.

CK Transmissions upgrades a C6 three-speed with modern amenities

In 1966, Ford introduced a beefy three-speed automatic transmission that was stuffed into anything that required a strong transmission including trucks, high-performance Mustangs, and sedans. The Ford C6 transmission would go on to enjoy a 30-year service life as Ford phased it out in 1996 to make room for overdrive versions of its big transmission line-up. Today, the C6 is still the go-to Blue Oval piece when you are looking to harness big horsepower. Credit the beefy guts and many aftermarket upgrades for the tough label.
